Safety Tips To Keep Your Christmas Tree Lit
When Picking a Tree…Keep it Green!
Choose a tree with fresh, green needles that do not fall off when touched.
Setting the Tree
• Be sure to cut 2” from the base of the trunk at a 45 degree angle before setting in the stand.
• Be sure to set tree a minimum of 3ft away from any heat source. Ex: Fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents, or lights.
• Do not block exits.
• Water tree tree daily.
Decorating The Tree
• Be sure you are using the correct lights. Some lights are specifically made for indoor or outdoor. Only use lights that are listed by a qualifying testing lab.
• Replace any damaged lights. Read manual for proper instructions And never use lit candles as decorations.
• Turn Christmas Tree off before leaving home and before going to bed.
What To Do with Tree After Christmas
• Get rid of the tree after Christmas or when it is dry. Dried-out trees are a fire danger and should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home.
• Check with your local community to find a recycling program.
• Bring outdoor electrical lights inside after the holidays to prevent hazards and make them last longer.
