Insulated gloves and mitts are used by people living in cold climates to keep their hands warm. When working outdoors, restocking frozen food, or when working on fishing boats, or in cold storage rooms, they must be worn at all times. Gloves that are chemical-resistant can be used to handle liquids that are hazardous. A knit glove also has a cuff to help keep dirt and other contaminants out of the glove, in addition to being breathable and form-fitting. A mechanic's or rigger's glove that has good dexterity is often necessary to perform general maintenance and repair tasks. The use of leather gloves is beneficial in forestry, landscaping, and general construction because they provide a balance between durability and dexterity. In addition to stocking frozen foods, fishing, and maintaining pools and ponds, rubber gloves also resist liquids.
