A cut-resistant glove protects against lacerations and punctures when handling metal, glass, and other sharp objects. As knit gloves are made from woven fabric, they are more breathable than leather gloves. When compared to other styles of gloves, mechanics' and riggers' gloves are more form-fitting. In order to increase cut resistance, leather gloves have liners or stitching that prevents the glove from cutting. As a result of leather's natural abrasion resistance, heat and sparks are not able to penetrate it due to its inability to penetrate. Under disposable gloves, chainmail gloves are worn so that they can protect against extreme knife hazards, because the gloves are made from metal mesh.
