Flame-Resistant Jackets & Coats
Jackets and coats that are fire-resistant protect workers from burn injuries in areas where sparks, open flames, and other fire hazards may occur. These garments are usually worn over flame- and arc-resistant base layers. Protective garments meeting NFPA 70E standards should be worn where there is a risk of arc flash near electrical equipment. In addition to being self-extinguishing, the material is resistant to arc flashes and burns. There are some flame-resistant shirts that are not necessarily arc flash-rated, just as there are some arc flash clothes that are not flame-resistant. Different types of garments are often worn together in order to provide greater coverage.
