There are flame-resistant pants and jeans made from self-extinguishing materials that can protect workers from burns in the event of a fire. A protective garment that provides arc flash protection is required by the NFPA 70E standards for use near electrical equipment that can present an arc flash hazard. Flame-resistance and arc-flash-resistance materials resist melting and burning, and have a self-extinguishing property when exposed to fire. It is true that most flame-resistant clothing is also arc flash-rated, but not all arc flash-rated clothing is also flame-resistant. In order to provide more coverage, different types of garments are often worn together.
